There are rolling hills to the west in the Crowley’s Ridge area, extending north to south in the central section of the county. The elevation of Trumann is 221 feet above sea level. HISTORY
Trumann’s origin dates from the early 1890’s when the community was literally hewn from the magnificent hardwood resources of the area during the logging operations in Poinsett County. It was first named “Mosher” after an official of a cooperage company logging area, and in 1902 the name was changed to “Weona” after another lumber company in the area. Its beginnings were a collection of rough, lumberjack camps, but as the timber was cut out and the land drained, it stabilized as a rich, agricultural community and was incorporated as “Trumann” in 1917. It became a second class city in 1924 and a first class city in 1958.
GEOLOGY
