Letter from the Mayor

Mayor Sheila Walters

Welcome to Trumann, a great place to live, work, and raise a family!

Located just 15 miles from Jonesboro and 50 miles from Memphis, Tennessee, bot of which are accessible on four lane highways, Trumann offers the advantage of small town living with access to health care, educational, recreational, and shopping facilities of larger cities.

Trumann is a progressive community that supports its government in providing support for industries, community services, housing, and recreational facilities. New housing developments, a new high school, a strong educational system, a new sports park, and many active churches of various denominations are assets to the community, as are the hunting and fishing areas accessible on and around the St. Francis River.

The largest city in Poinsett County, Trumann is unique in that it evolved from a logging industry, Poinsett Lumber and Manufacturing Company, which eventually became Singer Company, the largest producer of sewing machine cabinets for the company. Singer, which cleared and developed the farm land of this area, also developed the community of Trumann, which it dominated until 1982 when, after 75 years, the company closed its doors. By that time several industries had located in Trumann, creating a varied industrial base to complement the extensive farming industry that exists.

As you travel on future I-555, stop in and visit Trumann!
